My niece Lindsey took a beautiful picture of Monterrey Bay with a sailboat, lots of splashing water, and rocks -- my favorite things to paint. I love the colors in her photo. The town across the way was a problem to solve. I wanted the suggestion of the big city without painting a city. I scraped out the rocks once because I couldn't make the water fit where it was supposed to, so I wasted a lot of paint on this picture.
